Series Three features conversations with contributors to the book Supervision in Speech and Language Therapy: Personal Stories and Professional Wisdom published in 2024.
Each episode explores key themes from a different chapter in the book, offering varied perspectives and rich insights on supervision in practice.
Episode 1: Cathy Sparkes and Sam Simpson
Co-editors Cathy and Sam reflect on the the genesis and ambition of Supervision in Speech and Language Therapy: Personal Stories and Professional Wisdom, as well as some of the themes explored in their chapter Looking back and looking forward: Facilitating robust supervision culture and practice through training.
Episode 2: Melanie Cross
Contributor Melanie Cross discusses her book chapter A Lifejacket in Stormy Seas: Supervision for Speech and Language Therapists Working with Young People who have Mental Health Challenges and advocates for trauma-informed supervision as a way of taking care of ourselves and mitigating burn out when navigating complex systems and supporting systemic change around our clients.
Episode 3: Lucie Rochfort
Contributor Lucie Rochfort talks about her book chapter Developing a Multi-Disciplinary Allied Health Professional Supervision Strategy: A Case Study which describes a project she underwent to refresh allied health supervision practice and culture within an NHS service. The chapter outlines the process undertaken and offers retrospective insights to readers also keen to facilitate wider systemic change to support high quality supervision practice.
Episode 4: Dawn Leoni
Contributor Dawn Leoni discusses her book chapter Establishing Supervision Practices: One Manager’s Journey which details her structured approach to setting up a more robust supervision structure and culture within her SLT service. Dawn advocates for supervision being mandated as she views it as a critical component of clinical governance, client care and safety and quality service delivery by reflective practitioners.
